Homecoming - client setup
=========================

CLIENT REQUIRED: RAIN OF FEAR (RoF2)
------------------------------------

Homecoming runs on the RoF2 client. Titanium and Secrets of Faydwer are
not supported - see the note at the end if you are coming from a Titanium
server.

SETUP - TWO STEPS
-----------------

1. Unzip everything into your RoF2 folder - the one with eqgame.exe.
   Overwrite if asked.

2. Double-click SETUP-RoF2.bat

That is it. Launch with: eqgame.exe patchme

The script sets aside two client files that would otherwise override
the classic zones (see below). It deletes nothing - it renames them to
.eqg.disabled, so you can undo it at any time by renaming them back.
   Running it twice is harmless.

Prefer to do it by hand? Rename or delete these two files in your
   EverQuest folder instead:
       nektulos.eqg
       lavastorm.eqg
Leave the matching .s3d files alone - those are the classic zones.

WHY THIS IS NEEDED
------------------
Daybreak removed several classic zones from the client before Rain of Fear
shipped, and rebuilt two others in place under the same name.

Removed outright - restored by this archive:
hateplane.s3d / _obj The Plane of Hate, pre-2003 revamp
  commons.s3d / _obj West Commonlands
tox.s3d / _obj Toxxulia Forest (Erudin / Paineel)
misty.s3d / _obj Misty Thicket (Rivervale)
  lavastorm.s3d / _obj Lavastorm Mountains

Rebuilt in place - this is why step 2 exists:
nektulos, lavastorm Your client holds both versions and loads the
newer one unless the .eqg is moved out of the
way. Skip step 2 and you will walk around the
rebuilt zone while the server describes the old
one - NPCs buried underground, zone lines
                          dropping you through the world.

Erudites, Halflings and anyone travelling east out of Freeport need these
files, so do not skip the download.

ONE ZONE IS NOT CLASSIC: HIGHPASS HOLD
--------------------------------------
Highpass runs as Highpass Hold, the later version. This is not a choice we
made - Daybreak rebuilt that zone in a format (EQG v4) that has no way to
load the old geometry, and the classic version is absent from RoF2
entirely. Every other classic zone on the server is the original.

COMING FROM A TITANIUM SERVER?
------------------------------
You will need the RoF2 client. Titanium cannot connect properly: it has no
files for Highpass Hold, which is a main travel route, so you would be
unable to cross between the Karanas, Kithicor and High Keep.

RoF2 is a free Steam depot download and is what most modern emulated
servers use. It also gets you a far better UI and much better performance
than a 2005 client.

MAPS
----
A separate optional archive. Community maps are drawn against modern live
EverQuest, so on a classic server they label NPCs and landmarks that do not
exist here. Harmless, occasionally confusing.
